Using Plus Sized Belts to Slim Your Look
If you happen to be "plus sized," or you might think that you should never wear a belt, but in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, baggy, shapeless clothes can actually make me look bigger, not smaller. Therefore, having clothes that fit well is one of the first things you can do to make yourself look truly in style.
If you have already made the mistake of buying baggy clothes and you don't know what to do with them, you can still fix your look. In fact, wearing slimming belts can accentuate the parts you want to be seen, and can draw attention away from those you'd rather minimize. Done right, plus size belts can actually make you look slimmer, and can make you look pretty classy, too. They are a simple way to accessorize outfits for just a few dollars, and can update your style almost effortlessly.
Adding style to your outfit with plus size belts
It's an easy way to update your wardrobe without having to spend a lot of money. Consider the belt part of your accessories, just as you would bracelet, scarves or jewelry. If you have a lot of dresses, or shirts that can be paired with pants, you can change your look just by adding a "chunky" belt at the waist. Simply take your favorite pair of pants, top it with a long shirt, and then cinch that long shirt at the waist with your favorite modern belt. It can change a plain outfit into a dressy one, especially if you pair it with some calf high boots. Simple to stunning with just a few extra tweaks!
Tips to slimming with plus size belts
Wearing belts with big buckles lower on your hips will draw attention to the belt and will make you look longer, especially if you dress in monochrome. The belt "breaks up" the monochrome look but still gives you an overall "slimming" effect because the eye is on the belt.
Be careful not to wear a belt right over your tummy unless you have an hourglass figure
If you have an hourglass figure, a belt can make you look slimmer by accentuating your waist, especially if you do so while you're wearing a dress. However, if you're more of an apple shape, be careful not to wear a belt cinched directly over your waist. It simply will draw attention to attributes you would rather minimize. In that case, a belt worn lower over the hips, loosely, can help you get the look you want. For the best look, wear a loose shirt over your tummy and drape a belt down over your hips (as previously discussed) to draw attention there.
Wraps work, too
Finally, in lieu of belts with buckles, you can also opt for wraps or sashes if you wear a dress, again tied low over the hips and once you've got an hourglass figure. A pretty sash or wrap tied over a solid color shirt or dress will again draw the eye to the splash of color, making you look slimmer.
Don't be afraid to experiment!
Belts come in all shapes, sizes and colors. And although you don't want to do anything that would draw attention to parts of your figure you want to minimize, don't be afraid to experiment. A daring belt paired with a slimming shirt or dress can give you an updated, classy look that will have people looking at you for the right reasons.
